Teen Drug Abuse AND Entitlement at #DadChat

Category: #DadChat

#DadChat is never afraid to tackle the tough topics. We did DIVORCE two weeks ago and set a World Record for that chat! This Thursday, January 31 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET, we are taking on the pernicious problem of Teen Drug Abuse and the problem of Entitlement among our kids. If you don’t have a child that has abused drugs (or liquor), then you surely know one or many through your friends. It’s tragic. Adryenn Ashley (@Adryenn) is returning to help with this difficult discussion along with Peggy Harper Lee (@PeggyHarperLee).

Homework for this #DadChat is reading this column, Entitled.

Also, we are doing #DadChat LIVE from the Dad2.0Summit in Houston, where I’ll be speaking this coming weekend. I expect many attendees to join me in a round-table IRL discussion along with all of you in our amazing community, world-wide!

Award winning filmmaker, parallel entrepreneur and unabashed author Adryenn Ashley achieves the impossible: using laugh-out-loud humor she delivers essential financial and legal information so effectively, you actually get it.. A Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Certified Asset Protection Specialist, and Forensic Accountant, Ashley breaks down complicated financial issues, empowering women to take crucial steps toward their own financial health. So take charge of your marriage, and lay your “what-ifs” to rest.  The first installment of Adryenn Ashley’s series of financial advice books, “Every Single Girl’s Guide to Her Future Husband’s Last Divorce,” is a must read for any future or current second wife. Her website  is Wow Is Me.

Peggy Harper Lee is a mother, financial adviser and community volunteer who has personally experienced the devastation the rising entitlement culture brings to families. Raising four children, ages three to 29, over three decades, has given her a unique vantage point into the size of the entitlement problem and the need to take a stand. With humor, wisdom and a commitment to change, she is helping parents learn to understand the dangers of overindulgence, over-protection, and free range parenting, and to gain the skills needed to raise children to become responsible and successful adults. She is passionate about parenting as a learned skill.

Spoiled was written to bring critical resources and tools to those rearing their precious babies. She lives in Rocklin, California with her husband and two youngest children. This is her first book.

    Bruce,

Wouldn’t miss this #dadchat for the world.

    1. As a social worker I did all of my internships in substance abuse and adolescence.

2.I will even go far enough to say, I am recovering alcoholic that started drinking when I was a teen. I understand better than most about the difficulties of what it is like drinking as a teenager (hiding it, not hiding and denying it)

    3. You will be doing the entire thing from Dad 2.0 in Houston. I am seriously jealous about this…lol  It’s in my own backyard (just a 5 hour drive from me) and I would look totally normal in my cowboy hat and cowboy boots in Houston (I should know I have been there before….I have family there and my wife’s job is headquartered there).

Aaron, perhaps you could join us for the “Live” #DadChat at the Four Seasons? I’m sure I could get you “in” – but that’s a long drive! VERY eager to have your expertise for this important topic!

        Bruce,

I would LOVE to go! It is a topic I am well versed in and I am kicking myself for missing Dad 2.0 (I won’t miss the next one) Being though that it is last minute I am not sure it is in my finances to get there (I am a stay-at-home dad after all) I will be looking towards sponsors for next one!

I would like to ask you if it’s possible to do a remote via skype or something else? I appreciate the opportunity more than you will ever know and will probably regret this for a long time to come…. (I will also be asking you at the next Dad conference to be participating at your #Dadchat or at some future one…that’s a promise!)

    Interesting topic.
I wish I could listen to dad chat, as I could add s lot to this topic.

@danielalex_book:twitter We are working on doing #DadChat via a Google+ Hangout simultaneously with the chat – and then it is recorded for posterity – so, stay-tuned Daniel or drink a LOT of coffee and stay up and join us! Sleep is over-rated anyway!

      • http://daniel-dinnie.wozaonline.co.za/ Daniel Alexander Dinnie

One day, I’ll fill up on the coffee and stay up.
Till then, I’ll have to catch the blog posts :(

Entitlement and drug abuse on the same night? Wow! What made you decide to put them together? They both seem like easily an hour-long chat topic. It sounds heavy and important.

    • http://www.brucesallan.com Bruce Sallan

Well @profkrg:twitter - they can go hand-in-hand and I also agree that they can be separate topics…but, one of our co-hosts is a specialist on entitlement so the combo just seemed intriguing to me and @Adryenn:twitter - I hope to “see” you there, KG!

Have a great chat Bruce! Great topic. Luckily – my teen is pretty level headed. Not too much alcohol or drugs happening with her and her friends. More interested in good grades! Whew!

    • http://www.brucesallan.com Bruce Sallan

WHEN are you two finally going to join us @Kiboomu:twitter !!??

  • http://thisbeast.com/ netster

I think drug abuse and smoking is the same. Why teen smoke? Awesome topic!

    • http://www.brucesallan.com Bruce Sallan

I hope you can join us @Netster23 at #DadChat tomorrow!
