technology and our kids

This Thursday we are discussing Technology and our kids and Social Media, with a TRUE expert guest host AND dad, @DaveTaylor. Join us Thursday, July 5th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT. That’s 9:00 – 10:00 p.m., ET.

Are you and/or your kids hooked on technology? Is it a good or bad thing? What do they do that is different from what you do with technology? Are you aware of EVERYTHING they do? We’ll discuss these questions and so much more at #DadChat this week!

I try to very aware of what my son does. I realize he is only 3 1/2 but I happen to know he is being raised in the information age. People want everything instantaneously and patience is often in short supply. I have already introduced him to the I-Pad, Kindle Fire, Leappad and X-box.

As a social worker I happen to believe it is my responsibility to know what my son is doing and with whom. I try to stay on top of all the latest trends in technology just so I know what “might” be out there that could be used for great good or harm when it comes to children.

    Looking forward to Thursdays Dadchat!

You are very wise, DB…but, it will get harder and don’t relent!

Of this I have no doubt! It already is to be honest. I wrote awhile back about technology and my son. I currently have to turn the internet off on the I-Pad and the Kindle fire when he uses them and I am not sitting next to him. The one time I didn’t  he made a purchase http://wp.me/p2v2me-aL (that is the URL to the story if you would like to read it) Moral of the story lesson learned!!

Parent tip: When the kids are young, their ONLY access to a computer is in a “public” space where everyone is present – kitchen, for example!
