Accountability and Goals at #DadChat

Category: #DadChat

What does this comic strip have to do with this week’s #DadChat? Nothing, but it’s funny!

Every New Year people make resolutions and every subsequent year they tend to renew the same ones. We are NOT going to do that at our first #DadChat of the New Year on Thursday, January 2 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. PT. Nope, we’re going to simply – funny choice of word – chat about Goals and Accountability. As much as it would seem ripe to make this discussion about D.C. and their total lack of accountability, we’re going to stay closer to home – our families and ourselves!

Mom of four teens

Insomuch as Bruce is cavorting with wild animals somewhere in Africa right now, Kelli Smithgall has graciously agreed to fill his shoes for this #DadChat. Kelli knows a thing or two about parenting, given she’s a single mom of FOUR teenagers, ages 13 – 19. She’s also a Social Media Marketer and has even been a guest on Bruce’s show twice.

Some questions to ask and ponder for this #DadChat:

~~ How do you make your kids accountable?

~~ How do you make YOURSELF accountable?

~~ Do you have an Accountability Buddy? What is an Accountability buddy?

~~ Is it wise to set goals? Do you?

~~ At what age should we expect to hold our kids accountable?

~~ When should we teach our kids to set goals? Should we set them for them when they’re still young?

~~ What goals have you set AND achieved?

Looking forward to chatting with Kelli and will Bruce excuse himself from animals for an hour? :))

We’ll be at sea and it will be 4:00 a.m. for me – but I’m going to try and be there @disqus_mAYzV8PM6A:disqus…

Have fun at the cruise! Do they keep serving new menu or same food all the time? We all got food poisoning at Legoland Malaysia and the jam from Malaysia to Singapore was 4 hours (simply 5 mins if no jam). Decided to make cruise the next holiday, no jam for sure!

@disqus_mAYzV8PM6A:disqus – happily, the variety of food is pretty darn good. The menus change every day in the main dining room and the buffet. They are the same – more or less – at the two restaurants but there’s plenty of variety there as well. Cruising is really a nice way to travel, especially given the exotic locales we are going to…

It was a good conversation last night, thanks! Seems like the earlier the better on goals and accountability. I liked the suggestion of really trying to seek out what our children are interested in working toward. Our 8 y.o. son mentioned improving in gym as his first school goal…immediately I wanted more academic focus but will loop back around to find out more about his idea.

@davidbcrowley:disqus – by supporting his idea first you will be in a much better position for him to support yours! Good thinking, David!

        Good point, Bruce!
