Tweets during my June 16, 2011 “talk” at the 140conf, New York

The following 81 tweets, pasted exactly as they were tweeted, occurred in the 35 minutes during and after my 10-minute “talk.” 54 took place during the 10 minutes I spoke! The time-stamp is PST, so they all took place 3-hours later in New York time. Read my personal review of the conference and my trip to New York with my son, too. While these tweet links appear “live,” they all seem to go back to my home page on Hootsuite, fyi:

“I never thought a Twitter Stream could be so interesting and revealing!” – @135d3c613affb7b6df8f8dae1c71f78a:disqus

  • David W.

I couldn’t quite follow who was or wasn’t quoting whom, in particular, when it was Bruce tweeting or not Bruce tweeting. Were you tweeting WHILE you were speaking?

In any case, the interaction is interesting to track.  After re-reading what follows (I’m writing this AFTER having written what follows), the style, tone and “vibe” of the battery of tweets colored my comments.  So here goes:

The tweeting was not particularly stimulating in and of itself–much of what I read in the tweets was someone quoting a brief passage from your speech, often the same passage (e.g., the one about giving), so I am not sure what the value of, say, ten people sending that out is…well, I guess it goes out to all their followers…oh, who knows, it’s pretty remarkable in any case, this as a way of building a community of sorts…it is interesting to me that there is a final validation of knowing someone only AFTER meeting face to face (I’m recalling a couple of passages in Bruce’s article in which he more or less wrote as much)–that is why they call it VIRTUAL, right?

    • http://www.brucesallan.com Bruce Sallan

Awww, DW, see this is why I say you gotta be on Twitter.  The stream above is literally what was being “said” on Twitter by others during and after my talk. NONE of it is my tweets!

What it demonstrates is how fast the flow of information goes and comes…to me, that is the c-change we’re living in – that information is almost literally instantaneous – just as Jeff was so quick in winning my book!

  • Justin Hornung

It’s fascinating to read this a week after the event. During the conference, taking in the knowledge, experience, and personality of so many speakers, all while attempting to live-tweet the event – it’s easy to lose certain points or quotes in the information overload.

Reading through this assembled the scattered jigsaw-puzzle pieces of the event, and your talk in particular, and presented the recompleted memory in a decurrent slideshow across my mind’s eye. Though you weren’t the only “daddy blogger” to speak that day, your preso was the one I found more useful, more inspirational. Though I’m not a father yet, the views and energy you shared are indicative of the type of dad I’d want to be.

Thank you once again for sharing these shards of your mind and your life with us.
