Returning to #DadChat as the school year begins, we are so pleased to announce that Angela Maiers will be our guest this Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. MT/9:00 p.m. ET to discuss her new book, “Liberating Genius in the Classroom.” I’m fond of saying that Angela is “America’s Teacher.”
#DadChat recently discussed the mistakes we all make in Social Media with expert John Paul Aguiar. Using the transcript as a guide, I wanted to share the best tips and advice we learned from this topic at #DadChat.
Firstly, some overall impressions I took away from the discussion. Social Media is dangerous, to a degree, for all of us. The ability to hit “Send” can be done in a fit of creativity OR a fit or anger. The latter will usually come back to haunt us. The ability to reach out via a tweet requires little forethought and, again, can be harmful if we are reacting in the moment.
Yeah, it may sound corny to want to change the world, but we can. When we look at the problems in our world, they can seem too big, too overwhelming for any of us to affect. But, when you look at it ONE person at a time, then perhaps it isn’t so daunting! In Judaism, it’s called Tikkun Olam, which roughly means to Repair the World. Jews are asked to do this “one person at a time.” Our kids will be the arbiters of change. We must empower them, lead them, and model for them. That is what we’ll discuss with the inimitable Angela Maiers this Thursday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. Your homework is to read her recent column for the Huffington Post, When Students Say They Want to Change the World — Listen to Them!
We are so honored and pleased to have the inimitable, incomparable, and incredible @AngelaMaiers as this week’s #DadChat co-host, February 8 at 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., PST. Our topic is both #YouMatter and Open Mic for any questions you have for Angela or other things you’d like to discuss.
