One of my joys in life is talking with people wherever I go. My kids used to be completely embarrassed by this trait of mine but now don’t even pay attention. As my boys are entering adulthood and the challenges, options, and choices they will face, I find myself more interested in how young people are choosing to live their lives. More and more, my scientific polling and studies (hardly) seem to indicate less interest in marriage or kids.
When we took on divorce, we had our biggest #DadChat EVER – and perhaps one of the biggest hours ever on Twitter, with over 250-million impressions. So, why have we waited so long to re-visit this provocative topic? Heck if I know, but we’re TAKING IT ON again this Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET with a special co-host to be announced! And, coming back for a second time we have @Adryenn as our co-host! She brought us that record #DadChat and she’s back again!
The other night my wife and I went on a date night to a very nice restaurant. We had a very nice waitress who was attractive, friendly, and declared almost immediately that she wasn’t going to have any children. Huh? I then asked her if she had a boyfriend. She instantly and disdainfully said, “No way.”
I was jogging around our nearby lake when I saw two women walking. As I passed them, I recognized one as a former friend of mine. Our eyes met but she quickly averted them. I realized who it was by the time I was way past them. It brought back many memories of what I call The Dark Days of (My) Divorce.

Today’s radio show is inspired by this week’s world and local events…as well as this week’s column, My Fear and Loathing of Getting Old.
Divorce sucks. Anyone that has gone through a divorce knows this is true. I’ve heard fairy tales of “nice” divorces but I’ve never known of one, ESPECIALLY where kids are involved. I call Family Courts – ANTI-FAMILY COURTS and I call so-called family lawyers – ANTI-FAMILY LAWYERS and sometimes names inappropriate for a family-oriented website. But, NOTHING is worse than when the court, the lawyers, or the warring spouses do EXACTLY what they all know is EXACTLY the wrong thing to do and put the children in the middle.
This Thursday, June 5 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET we are going to TAKE ON this tough issue with a man who has lived it, Marc Clark and his associate Alana Seal. We will be giving away TWO COPIES of Marc’s best-selling book, The Princess Fables, at this week’s #DadChat.
I’m wading into dangerous waters with this column, but has that ever stopped me? This column is based on a very scientific study that I’ve conducted by observing the lives and behavior of four of my single friends; two men and two women. Of course this “study” is accurate but it may have a plus or minus error factor of 3%.
Writers never know what is going to connect, resonate, please, and/or anger readers. Staying Single (Part One) achieved that. First, I want to declare the reason for the title since that is just one point of anger from my critics. I am a writer. I want readers. I choose titles that are honest to the content of my columns but I also choose ones I think will draw interest. I am no different than ANY television newscast, newspaper, book, or Hollywood. To be quite clear, I am NOT apologizing for my title choice.
I do want to clarify things that were either assumed or misinterpreted as well as share some of the comment “highlights.”
