As part of the Dad 2.0 Summit this year – in San Francisco – we were privileged to visit the campus of LucasFilm. Here is some video as we walked from their awesome screening room (yes, we did see the Star Wars trailer and it looked incredible) and saw some of the wonderful movie memorabilia and art along the way. We also met some Lucas “friends” that you’ll recognize!
The Sallan Boys went to San Francisco for the 3rd time to attend The Outside Lands Music Festival. This is some video from time NOT spent at Golden Gate Park and just enjoying “that city by the bay.” Enjoy the two videos made – so far- from attending this year’s 3-day music festival – A Taste of Paul and The Best of Outside Lands, 2013!
Preamble: I joke that I’m the oldest person on the grounds at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for the Outside Lands Music Festival – this being my third year going with my sons. The only people I saw that were older than me were performers. The first year it was Tom Jones, last year it was Neil Young, and this year it is both Paul McCartney and Willie Nelson. Outside Lands is an amazing experience and I don’t think age should be a determinant of attendance even if the 65,000 attendees could pretty much all be my kids.
Every parent wants to be the “cool” parent – that dad or mom that all the other kids love and want to hang out with. I’m that dad: at least in my mind. The reality is I’m still my kids’ “Old Man” and the sooner I recognize that the better. This experience was driven home recently when I went with my boys, and my son’s girlfriend, to The Outside Music Festival in San Francisco.
The Outside Lands Music Festival this year was simply fantastic. I took hours of video and you can pretty much get a complete feel for the event in this short 11 minute 45 second compilation of clips, people, and more. I kept all the music clips to well under the “fair use” limit so it’s pretty fast paced and, hopefully, YouTube will LEAVE ME ALONE since I was fully legal as far as I understand. You will see clips of the best concert of the festival – Paul McCartney – as well as others of Surfer Blood, Band of Horses, The National, Gary Carter, Jr., Young the Giant, Jurassic 5, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Head and the Heart, Phoenix, Hall & Oates, Vampire Weekend, Willie Nelson, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Outside Lands 2012 is an incredible music festival that takes place each summer in San Francisco. This was my 2nd time there. The first time I went with my older son and two of his friends. This time I went with both of my boys. They are old enough that we all went our separate ways. I so enjoyed some of the concerts but mostly I enjoyed the people. This is the first of several videos I’ll be sharing from 5 hours of footage I took.
