It’s that time of year: The Holiday Season! Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s. We’re beginning the celebratory mood with very special guest and Grammy-Award winner Anthony Hamilton Thursday, November 20 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET. He is beginning his national tour for his new album Home for the Holidays which we will be giving away at #DadChat this week! Anthony will talk about kids (he’s a father of six boys), music, love, and Christmas!
The other day I had a sobering conversation with a 21-year-old woman. We covered a lot of topics, and when I got to my inevitable probing questions about her personal life and asked if she ever wanted to get married, her answer was a quick and resounding, “No.” The ensuing short exchange sealed the deal for me of how far we’ve come – as far as societal values – in just my own lifetime!
A recent study reflected a remarkable change in parents’ expectations for their children’s future. For the first time in memory, the majority of parents did NOT expect their children to exceed their parent’s fiscal success. And, in my opinion, this is the reality we are currently facing. I had it easier than my boys’ do and will. I was lucky. They may not be so lucky.
We all think or speak about wanting to “Start over” with dreams of what we might do differently if we could. Whenever I declare such a thing, I am clear that I’d like to start over with the knowledge I’ve learned living as long as I have. Sort of an oxymoron, I suppose.
